Why might a Tooth Need to be Removed?
Why?
While tooth extraction is always a last resort, it may be the best treatment option in certain situations. Severe tooth decay, advanced periodontal disease, or fractures that cannot be repaired are all situations that might call for the removal of a tooth. Some teeth require extraction in advance of orthodontic treatment, or because they are positioned poorly in the mouth.
The Tooth Extraction Process

There is no need to worry about pain! Your dentist will first administer local anesthetic to numb the tooth, jawbone, gums and the surrounding area. You will remain completely pain-free and comfortable throughout the procedure, although you may feel some slight pressure during the process. After the tooth is removed, it is not uncommon to experience some mild discomfort immediately after the freezing wears off. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen are recommended at this time. Any bleeding and swelling is usually quite minimal. Your dentist will go over with you exactly what to expect.
